Aalanah Peoples (she/her)

Hi! I’m Aalanah Peoples (she/her). I am a psychotherapist in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C. I currently practice at Roamers Therapy.

Philosophy

As your therapist, I explore what suits your goals, your identity, and your personality. My clinical approach is inclusive of your visible and invisible identities. My specialties and experiences include depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment, substance use, self-esteem, life transitions, relapse prevention, and relationship issues. I primarily utilize Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), the Gottman Method, and Motivational Interviewing.

I understand that therapy is not a one size fits all nor a linear process. I will create a safe space for you to explore reflection, growth, and challenges that are apparent or hidden from your perspective. My intentions for your therapeutic space is for you to experience a refreshing oasis for you to express and confront obstacles that are getting in the way with yourself, romantic partners, family members, or others.

The core of my therapeutic approach is relational and collaborative. We will find an appropriate flow that best suits you and your presenting issues(s). We will focus on solutions, distinguishing progression from perfection, and engaging in mindfulness techniques. I will help you develop a solid foundation in how to utilize our therapeutic relationship to address anxiety, trauma, attachment, relationship issues, self-esteem, self-deprecating thought patterns, and poor ways of coping.

By engaging in a collaborative relationship with me, you will get the “homework” and progress you seek. We will incorporate therapeutic activities, worksheets, journaling, goal setting, reflection, and mindfulness mediation will work for you to reach your goals.

I get how our troubles may sometimes affect us to feel out of answers, but I want to invite you to explore developing a mental, emotional, and somatic toolbox to navigate challenges and discomfort. I will support you to develop your very own rhythm in therapy that best serves you. I encourage you to take the next step to connect with me as your psychotherapist.
